Process abort via out-of-bounds bitstream read
Published Oct 19, 2022 · Updated May 8, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in Bento4 1.6.0-639 allows remote attackers to crash mp42ts by supplying a crafted MP4 file. AP4_BitReader::ReadCache reads one byte beyond a 40-byte heap allocation while AP4_Dac4Atom parses the file's bitstream. The victim must run mp42ts on the file; the demonstrated result is a process abort, with no confidentiality or integrity impact reported.
