Process crash via out-of-bounds dec3 atom read
Published Oct 19, 2022 · Updated May 8, 2025
Heap-buffer overflow in Bento4 1.6.0-639 allows attackers to crash the mp42aac utility by supplying a crafted MP4 file. AP4_Dec3Atom::AP4_Dec3Atom reads one byte beyond a 24-byte heap allocation while parsing the file's EC-3 dec3 atom. Exploitation requires the file to be processed by mp42aac and terminates that process; no confidentiality or integrity impact is reported.
