Unauthorized channel connections via suffix-only origin matching
Published Oct 17, 2022 · Updated May 10, 2025
Origin validation error in Phoenix before 1.6.14 allows remote attackers to open unauthorized channel connections from malicious origins. Phoenix.Socket.Transport compare_host? accepts any hostname ending in the allowed suffix without requiring a subdomain-label boundary. Only wildcard check_origin configurations are exposed; default LiveView CSRF protection and token-authenticated channels block unauthenticated connections.
