CVE-2022-42969Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Process hang via SVN output regex backtracking

Published Oct 16, 2022 · Updated May 14, 2025

The disputed claim for py 1.11.0 and earlier says crafted SVN data lets remote attackers hang a process through regular-expression backtracking. InfoSvnCommand.lspattern matches attacker-controlled svn ls -v output with overlapping variable-length groups that were alleged to cause excessive backtracking. This path requires a caller to process listing data from an attacker-controlled Subversion repository, and GitHub withdrew the advisory after reviewers could not reproduce the claimed slowdown.
