Kernel code execution via insufficient AVEVideoEncoder checks
Published Dec 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Privilege escalation in AVEVideoEncoder in Apple tvOS before 16.2 allows local users to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. The component performs insufficient checks during an undisclosed operation, allowing a malicious app to cross the user-to-kernel privilege boundary. Execution of an attacker-controlled app and user interaction are required; the resulting code runs with kernel privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
