Code execution via crafted package type confusion
Published Dec 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 21, 2025
Type confusion in xar in Apple macOS Big Sur, Monterey, and Ventura allows attackers to execute arbitrary code by processing a crafted package. Apple identifies the locus as xar but has not disclosed which object types are confused or which package field reaches the incorrect type handling. Exploitation requires local processing of a malicious package and user interaction; successful exploitation runs code in the affected processing context.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
