CVE-2022-42801Public exploit

Kernel code execution via vm_object use-after-free

Published Nov 1, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025

Kernel logic error in Apple macOS, tvOS, and watchOS allows local users to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges through a malicious app. The vm_map_enter error path mishandles a virtual-memory object reference, leaving a freed vm_object reachable for later use. Execution requires local user interaction with the app; successful exploitation grants kernel-context control over system data and execution.
