CVE-2022-42719Public exploit

Kernel crash and code execution via stale pointers

Published Oct 13, 2022 · Updated May 15, 2025

Use-after-free in Linux kernel 5.2 through 5.19.x before 5.19.16 allows physically proximate attackers to crash or execute code. mac80211 retains pointers into an allocated nontransmitted_profile buffer, frees that buffer before returning, then dereferences the stale pointers while updating scan results. Exploitation requires injection of malformed multi-BSSID beacon frames within WLAN range; a successful trigger crashes the kernel and permits arbitrary code execution.
