CVE-2022-42717

Root command execution via sudoers wildcard

Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated May 20, 2025

Local privilege escalation in HashiCorp Vagrant before 2.3.1 allows local users to execute arbitrary commands as root on Linux hosts. The Linux NFS sudoers entry authorized passwordless root execution of a command pattern containing a wildcard, which matched attacker-controlled arguments. Exploitation requires a host administrator to have manually enabled the optional documented sudoers configuration for NFS shared folders.
