Browser script execution via unchecked CSV fields
Published Oct 12, 2022 · Updated May 15, 2025
Reflected XSS in REDCap before 12.4.18 and 12.5.0 through 12.5.10 allows context-dependent attackers to execute JavaScript. The Alerts & Notifications import review inserts fields from an uploaded CSV into the DOM without XSS checks, causing embedded script to execute in the uploader's browser. Exploitation requires a REDCap user to upload an attacker-supplied file; the script then runs in that user's REDCap origin and can disclose credentials or initiate downloads.
