CVE-2022-42527Network attack vector

Remote device crash via unchecked modem message

Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 17, 2025

Null pointer dereference in Android kernel modem code allows remote attackers to crash affected Pixel devices via a crafted message. cd_SsParseMsg in cd_SsCodec.c fails to verify a required pointer before dereferencing it while parsing the untrusted message, terminating the modem component. Exploitation requires no privileges or user interaction; the documented consequence is an availability-only device service interruption rather than code execution or data access.
