Local privilege escalation via unchecked SMS encoding
Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 17, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in Android kernel rild_exynos allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges without user interaction. BroadcastSmsConfigsRequestData::encode in smsdata.cpp encodes broadcast SMS configuration data without checking destination bounds, enabling an out-of-bounds write. Existing System execution privileges are required, and the published record does not identify the final privilege level or a separate resulting impact.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
