Local privilege escalation via unchecked SIM update entry
Published Dec 16, 2022 · Updated Apr 17, 2025
Out-of-bounds write in the Android kernel allows local users with System privileges to escalate privileges without user interaction. ProtocolSimBuilder::BuildSimUpdatePb3gEntry in protocolsimbuilder.cpp writes a SIM update entry without verifying destination bounds. Exploitation requires local System execution privileges on an affected Pixel device and can corrupt out-of-bounds memory to obtain higher privileges.
