CVE-2022-4244Network attack vector

File access via unchecked archive entry paths

Published Sep 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Path traversal in Codehaus Plexus Utils before 3.0.24 allows remote attackers to access files outside the extraction directory. Expand.extractFile passed each untrusted archive entry name to FileUtils.resolveFile but did not verify that the resulting absolute path remained beneath the target directory. Reachability requires a consuming application to process an attacker-controlled archive with Expand, and access is bounded by the application's file permissions.
