Root code execution via unchecked buffer copy
Published Mar 29, 2023 · Updated Feb 14, 2025
Buffer overflow in the bcmdhd driver in Tesla Model 3 Infotainment 2022.12.22 allows local users to execute code as root. The driver fails to validate the length of user-supplied data before copying it into a buffer, allowing memory corruption beyond the buffer boundary. Exploitation requires existing privileged code execution on the vehicle, and successful exploitation grants root control.
