CVE-2022-42323

Denial of service via unbounded Dom0-owned nodes

Published Nov 1, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Denial of service in Xen with the XSA-322 fix allows guest OS users to exhaust xenstored memory through cooperating guests. When one guest writes nodes into another guest's local Xenstore tree and the owner reboots, Xen reassigns those nodes to quota-exempt Dom0. Repeating this process between two malicious guests exhausts memory, preventing new guest creation and configuration changes to running guests.
