CVE-2022-42277

Privileged code execution via unrestricted SmiFlash access

Published Jan 13, 2023 · Updated Apr 7, 2025

Improper authentication in NVIDIA DGX Station A100 SBIOS before 10.16 allows local users to modify flash through SmiFlash. The SmiFlash interface permits an elevated local user to read, write, and erase SBIOS flash without enforcing the intended authentication boundary. Elevated local privileges are required; successful access can expose firmware data, execute code, escalate privileges, or interrupt service across components.
