REST traffic interception via unvalidated provider certificates
Published Nov 15, 2022 · Updated Jul 9, 2026
Certificate validation failure in Liferay Portal and DXP allows man-in-the-middle attackers to impersonate DDM REST data providers. The Dynamic Data Mapping module sends DDMRESTDataProvider HTTPS requests without validating the server certificate, accepting an untrusted endpoint as authentic and permitting returned data to be read or altered. Exploitation requires control of the network path between the Liferay server and a configured REST provider; the documented consequence is disclosure or modification of provider traffic, not service interruption.
