Arbitrary code execution via dependency confusion
Published Oct 11, 2022 · Updated May 20, 2025
Dependency confusion in d8s-asns 0.1.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through a malicious PyPI dependency. The release metadata declares democritus-csv, a package name no longer controlled by the maintainer, so pip resolves and installs third-party code. Execution requires installation of the yanked 0.1.0 release and runs with the privileges of the installing Python environment.
