Application crash via recursive nested-array deserialization
Published Oct 2, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Resource exhaustion in FasterXML jackson-databind before 2.12.7.1 and 2.13.0 through 2.13.3 allows remote attackers to crash applications. BeanDeserializer._deserializeFromArray recursively unwraps attacker-controlled nested JSON arrays without limiting nesting depth, exhausting the Java call stack. Exploitation requires UNWRAP_SINGLE_VALUE_ARRAYS to be explicitly enabled; the feature is disabled by default.
