CVE-2022-41999Network attack vector

Application crash via missing DDS cubemap face

Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in OpenImageIO 2.3.19.0 and 2.4.4.2 allows attackers to crash image-processing applications via a crafted DDS file. DDSInput::read_native_tile calls memset on an empty m_buf vector when a cubemap omits a requested face, writing to the null page. Exploitation requires an application to process the malicious file through the tiled DDS path and interrupts that process without reported data disclosure or modification.
