Information disclosure via unchecked IPTC tag length
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in OpenImageIO 2.3.19.0 allows remote attackers to disclose process memory through a crafted TIFF file. decode_iptc_iim trusts the IPTC tag's attacker-controlled length when constructing a string, reading beyond the heap buffer and storing the bytes in image metadata. The file must be processed by an application using the affected library; exposure is limited to data adjacent to the IPTC buffer.
