Environment-variable disclosure via peer API DNS rebinding
Published Nov 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 22, 2025
Origin validation error in the Tailscale peer API before 1.32.3 allows remote attackers to read node environment variables. The peer API accepts browser requests after an attacker-controlled website rebinds its hostname to the node, without validating the request origin. A user must visit the malicious site; exposed data can include credentials or authentication keys that permit tailnet access.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
