Unauthorized data access via omitted data-stream resolution
Published Nov 15, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Incorrect authorization in OpenSearch Security before 1.3.7 and 2.0.0 through 2.3.0 allows remote authenticated users to access restricted data. ConfigModelV7 resolves permitted index patterns as aliases but omits data streams and their backing indices, so document-level security, field-level security, and field masking are not applied to those indices. Exploitation requires an authenticated user already authorized to read an affected data stream; it does not grant access to arbitrary cluster indices.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
