Local privilege escalation via driver access control
Published May 10, 2023 · Updated Jan 27, 2025
Improper access control in Intel OFU Utility before 14.1.30 allows local users to escalate privileges through its kernel-mode driver. Intel identifies the locus only as OFU's kernel-mode driver and has not published the access-control operation that mishandles untrusted input. Exploitation requires an authenticated local user, and successful abuse raises that user's privileges across the driver's security boundary.
