CVE-2022-41767Network attack vector

Editor IP disclosure via stale ip_changes rows

Published Dec 26, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025

Information disclosure in MediaWiki before 1.35.8, 1.36.0 through 1.37.4, and 1.38.0 through 1.38.2 exposes editor IP addresses to remote attackers. The reassignEdits.php maintenance script changes edit ownership but fails to delete the original IP address rows from ip_changes, so range queries on Special:Contributions retain the association. Exposure requires a privileged operator to reassign edits from an IP address to a registered account; an unauthenticated range lookup can then link that account's edits to the former IP address.
