SYSTEM code execution via improper certificate validation
Published Oct 10, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Improper certificate validation in Trend Micro Apex One 2019 and SaaS Windows agents allows local users to execute arbitrary code as SYSTEM. The Client Plug-in Service Manager accepts a DLL after improperly validating its certificate, then loads it with service privileges. Low-privileged code execution on the endpoint is required, and successful exploitation grants full SYSTEM-context execution.
