CVE-2022-41715Network attack vector

Denial of service via regex memory amplification

Published Oct 14, 2022 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Denial of service in Go regexp/syntax before 1.18.7 or 1.19.2 allows attackers to exhaust memory via crafted regular expressions. The regexp/syntax parser expands certain compact expressions by a very large constant factor, so relatively small untrusted patterns consume excessive memory during parsing. Exploitation requires a program to compile attacker-controlled expressions and can cause memory exhaustion or service interruption; normal expressions remain unaffected.
