Account enumeration via explicit login error responses
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025
User enumeration in Ghost 5.9.4 login functionality allows remote attackers to identify registered email addresses via HTTP requests. The POST /ghost/api/admin/session endpoint returns HTTP 404 and an explicit no-user error for an unregistered address, creating a response oracle. No authentication is required; repeated probes validate candidate accounts for targeted phishing or password attacks.
