Local file disclosure via external entity resolution
Published Mar 21, 2023 · Updated Jan 17, 2025
XML external entity processing in VISAM VBASE before 11.7.5 allows remote attackers to disclose files through a crafted FB.XML file. The FB.XML parser follows an attacker-specified external entity URI and embeds the retrieved contents into the XML document for further processing. Exploitation requires a valid user to visit malicious content or open the crafted file, and disclosure is limited to information accessible to the VBASE process.
