Heap memory disclosure via byte-count scaling error
Published Dec 23, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in OpenImageIO 2.3.19.0 allows remote attackers to disclose adjacent heap data via a crafted TIFF file. TIFFInput::readspec casts byte-oriented IPTC data to uint32_t pointers, then uses the byte count as an element count and copies four times the allocated data. The path is reached when an application parses a TIFF RichTIFFIPTC tag; leaked metadata can expose process information and assist a separate mitigation bypass.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
