Fingerprint service malfunction via attacker-controlled file content
Published Oct 14, 2022 · Updated May 14, 2025
Memory corruption in Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0 and EMUI 11.0.1 and 12.0.0 allows local users to disrupt the fingerprint service. The fingerprint trusted application mishandles attacker-controlled file content, causing a heap overflow, out-of-bounds read, or null-pointer fault. Root permission is required, and successful exploitation makes fingerprint authentication operate abnormally without a reported confidentiality impact.
