Out-of-bounds access via unchecked HW_KEYMASTER read
Published Oct 14, 2022 · Updated May 14, 2025
Out-of-bounds access in Huawei HarmonyOS 2.0 and EMUI 11.0.1 and 12.0.0 allows remote attackers to cause memory access through crafted keymaster data. The HW_KEYMASTER module fails to verify data returned by a read before using it, allowing maliciously constructed values to drive an out-of-bounds access. Exploitation requires reaching the affected keymaster interface; the record provides no documented authentication gate or evidence of confidentiality impact, and the resulting memory-safety failure can interrupt service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
