Administrative credential disclosure via unencrypted Basic Authentication
Published Feb 18, 2025 · Updated Mar 20, 2025
Cleartext transmission in the Netgear C7800 6.01.07 web interface allows man-in-the-middle attackers to read administrator credentials. The interface places a Base64-encoded username and password in an HTTP Basic Authorization header while transport security is disabled by default. An adversary positioned on the WLAN or LAN must intercept an authenticated request; the disclosed credentials grant administrative access.
