CVE-2022-4144Public exploit

Guest-triggered host process crash via unchecked buffer size

Published Nov 29, 2022 · Updated Apr 14, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in QEMU QXL display emulation through 7.1.0 allows guest OS users to crash the host QEMU process. qxl_phys2virt() translates a guest-supplied physical address without verifying that the requested structure fits in the QXL memory slot. Access to a guest configured with the QXL display device is required, and successful exploitation interrupts that virtual machine by terminating its host process.
