CVE-2022-41409Public exploit

Utility hang via negative repeat length underflow

Published Jul 18, 2023 · Updated Oct 28, 2024

Integer overflow in PCRE2 pcre2test before 10.41 allows attackers to hang the utility via a negative subject-line repeat value. The subject-line parser casts the negative repeat to an unsigned size_t while updating needlen, after which the buffer-growth loop doubles dbuffer_size indefinitely. The condition requires pcre2test to process attacker-controlled test input; the upstream project says only test code is affected and expects no impact outside the utility.
