Privileged file read and write via CLI traversal
Published Mar 7, 2023 · Updated Oct 21, 2025
Path traversal in affected Fortinet FortiOS 6.0 through 7.2 releases allows local users to read and write underlying system files. The execute wireless-controller hs20-icon upload-icon CLI path accepts crafted traversal sequences, allowing a TFTP-fetched file to be written outside its intended directory. Exploitation requires privileged CLI access; observed attacks replaced system binaries, established persistence, and triggered protective boot failures.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=6.0.0 <=6.0.16
