CVE-2022-41325Public exploit

Code execution via VNC framebuffer overflow

Published Dec 6, 2022 · Updated Apr 23, 2025

Integer overflow in VLC Media Player's VNC module through 3.0.17.4 allows remote attackers to crash VLC or execute code via crafted VNC streams. The mallocFrameBufferHandler function multiplies attacker-controlled width, height, and pixel depth in a signed integer, allocates a truncated buffer, and then permits out-of-bounds framebuffer writes. Exploitation requires a user to open a crafted playlist or deliberately connect to a rogue VNC server; vendor testing reported crashes as the likely result and no observed code-execution exploits.
