Service interruption via unescaped locale pattern
Published Oct 16, 2022 · Updated May 14, 2025
Regular expression DoS in Django 3.2 before 3.2.16, 4.0 before 4.0.8, and 4.1 before 4.1.2 allows remote attackers to interrupt service. The regex property in django.urls.resolvers passes the active language prefix directly to re.compile without escaping regex metacharacters. Unauthenticated network reachability to a site using internationalized URL reversing is sufficient; a crafted locale can consume processing resources or raise a regex error during request handling.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
