Gather Data Sampling in certain Intel Processors allows local users to read stale vector-register data through transient execution. A faulting gather instruction transiently forwards stale data from architectural or internal vector registers, which cache-timing side channels can infer. Unprivileged code execution on the same physical core is required, and sampled data can cross user, kernel, virtual-machine, and SGX boundaries.
