CVE-2022-40976

Arbitrary file write via unchecked ZIP paths

Published Nov 24, 2022 · Updated Apr 25, 2025

Path traversal in Pilz PAScal, PASconnect, PASmotion, PNOZmulti Configurator, and PAS4000 allows local users to write arbitrary files. During project-backup, library, or firmware-archive loading, the software fails to reject ZIP entry names containing relative path components and extracts them outside its working directory. Exploitation requires a user to load a manipulated archive; files are written with that user's privileges and can enable code execution without direct confidentiality or availability impact.
