Remote code execution via unclaimed dependency namespace
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Dependency confusion in d8s-uuids 0.1.0 allows remote attackers to run arbitrary code through an attacker-controlled PyPI package. The release metadata declares an unpinned democritus-hypothesis dependency whose namespace was no longer controlled by the maintainer, so pip resolves and installs third-party code. Exploitation requires installation of the affected release while a malicious dependency is available, and its code runs with the installing process's privileges.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
