Code execution via third-party dependency resolution
Published Sep 19, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Dependency confusion in d8s-urls 0.1.0 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code through a malicious democritus-hypothesis package. The setup script copies the unpinned democritus-hypothesis name from requirements.txt into install_requires, so pip resolves the third-party upload. Installation of d8s-urls 0.1.0 is required; the public record does not disclose a malicious payload or its execution hook.
