Process crash via null descriptor dereference
Published Sep 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in Bento4 through 1.6.0-639 allows remote attackers to crash mp4split through a crafted MP4 file. AP4_DescriptorListWriter::Action reads through a null descriptor pointer while AP4_EsDescriptor::WriteFields serializes malformed descriptor data. The file must be processed by mp4split, and the demonstrated consequence is a process crash rather than data disclosure or modification.
