Crash via out-of-bounds fwrite read
Published Sep 15, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in Axiomatic Systems Bento4 through 1.6.0-639 allows context-dependent attackers to crash mp4split via a crafted MP4 file. AP4_HdlrAtom::WriteFields reaches AP4_StdcFileByteStream::WritePartial with a one-byte empty-string buffer and a larger write length, causing fwrite to read beyond the buffer. Processing the crafted file is required; the demonstrated consequence is an AddressSanitizer abort and loss of the mp4split process, not data disclosure.
