CVE-2022-40705Network attack vector

Unauthenticated file disclosure via external XML entities

Published Sep 22, 2022 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

XML external entity injection in Apache SOAP 2.2 and later allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files through RPCRouterServlet. The servlet’s weakly configured XML parser resolves attacker-supplied external entities while processing crafted XML content, returning referenced local file data over HTTP. Unauthenticated network access to the servlet is sufficient, and the published impact is limited to file disclosure.
