CVE-2022-40690Network attack vector

Browser script execution via externally rendered API content

Published Oct 24, 2022 · Updated May 7, 2025

Stored cross-site scripting in BookStack before 22.09 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in a viewer's browser via API content. BookStack returns user-provided page content through its API without guaranteeing safe external rendering, while its own interface relies on CSP to suppress injected scripts. An authenticated user must inject the content and another user or application must render it outside BookStack's CSP protections; exploitation runs script in the viewer's origin.
