CVE-2022-40681

Local file deletion via unauthorized named-pipe request

Published Nov 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 30, 2024

Incorrect authorization in Fortinet FortiClient for Windows allows local users to delete arbitrary files through a named-pipe request. A privileged FortiClient service accepts a crafted request on a specific named pipe without correctly authorizing the low-privilege caller, then deletes the caller-selected file. Exposure is limited to local low-privilege users on Windows running 6.0.0 through 6.0.10, 6.2.0 through 6.2.9, 6.4.0 through 6.4.8, or 7.0.0 through 7.0.7; deletion can interrupt FortiClient or other services.
