Service interruption via unthrottled chunk-write logging
Published Nov 19, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Denial of service in David Moreno Onion allows remote attackers to interrupt embedded HTTP services by rapidly resetting connections. onion_response_flush logs every failed chunk-length write without rate limiting, letting repeated resets consume worker time and storage with warnings. A reachable application using Onion to serve sufficiently large chunked responses is required; the demonstrated result was log flooding and a temporary service stall.
