CVE-2022-40505Network attack vector

Memory disclosure via DNS hostname buffer over-read

Published May 2, 2023 · Updated Aug 3, 2024

Buffer over-read in Qualcomm Snapdragon modem firmware allows remote attackers to disclose memory via a crafted DNS hostname. The modem DNS hostname parser reads beyond the end of its input buffer while processing an untrusted hostname, exposing adjacent memory. Network access without authentication or user interaction is sufficient, and disclosure is limited to memory adjacent to the over-read buffer.
